Getting the Timing Right in Weston
Mid-February: pre-emergent
Full-sun HOA lawns germinate goosegrass and crabgrass early. Pre-emergent is down by the third week of February with a late-spring follow-up.
Spring: the feeding window
Broward County restricts nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer on lawns from June 1 through September 30 and keeps it ten feet back from any lake or canal, so the feeding that carries a lawn through summer has to go down before June. Palms get their 8-2-12 with magnesium in the same window.
Summer: no nitrogen, all scouting
Chinch bugs along sidewalks, webworms from August, gray leaf spot after storms. Zoysia lawns are watched for hunting billbug. Irrigation should be minimal — the sky is doing the work.
October to November: harden and prevent
Potassium in October; large-patch prevention in November on both turf types, with Zoysia often needing it a week or two earlier.
